MEET TINA SMITH
My journey to massage therapy has been a long and winding one, as journeys in life are. I studied Human Development in college and worked in Head Start and Senior Services for many years. If you’ve worked or know someone who has worked in that field, you know that it is both very rewarding and very demanding work. County and state politics and budget decisions began falling short of meeting the real needs of the people with which I was working. This took a significant emotional and physical toll on me. As a single parent of two children, I wasn’t able to offer what I wanted to them or to myself. I couldn’t pour from an empty cup. I needed to do something to change my life’s direction.
I was determined to continue to work one-on-one with people, make meaningful heartfelt connections, help people, and make a difference in people’s lives and in the world. But I wanted to do it in a way that would uplift my own heart and body and get me out from behind a desk. And so I entered massage school, and the sun finally came out from behind the clouds.
Becoming a massage therapist has been a journey of both learning and healing. I gained the firsthand knowledge of how much the healing of the body supports the healing of the mind and spirit. I found a belief in myself and my place in the world. Old injuries and pain I experienced for years came to the surface and through massage, exercise, chiropractic work, and acupuncture, were transformed and released.
It is a dream come true to have my own practice and be able to offer a unique blend of modalities. I love being able to have a bit of extra time with someone, not having to rush them to the reception desk before the office closes. I love being able to customize each person’s treatment plan and each session. I can offer exercises, stretches, do ergonomic assessments, visit homes or offices – whatever it takes to find the key to shifting what is causing pain. I offer techniques that I find to be powerful, healing, and inspiring. You’ll find hope, restoration, and healing. You’ll leave your session with more energy and optimism which naturally overflows to others in your life.
When I’m not in the massage studio practicing, I’m often outside. I love hiking, both in our nearby parks and in the Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens wilderness. Northern Washington holds a special place in my heart, and backpacking in Olympic National Park was a long-time dream I was lucky enough to do in summer 2024. I love taking photos, especially close-up photos to highlight the small details in our world. Several of my photographs are here on this website. I’ve also made photo cards that are available for sale in the massage studio if they inspire you. I love working in the yard - you’ll see my little garden when you visit the studio. It’s always changing as the seasons shift or as I add new things. I also love cooking, small gatherings with my dear friends, knitting and felting, and reading historical fiction or mysteries.
I graduated from East West College of the Healing arts in 2016 and am a licensed massage therapist in Oregon (OBMT #22576). I began teaching massage in January of 2020 and have been teaching ever since. I so enjoy connecting with other professionals and helping others to learn and grow. I’m a member of the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals which supports me with training opportunities and information. I’m a former member of The Association for Size Diversity and Health (ASDAH) and remain committed to the practice of Health at Every Size® (HAES) principles, ensuring that every client feels welcome and safe at my practice. I’ve practiced Reiki since 2005, and am a Usui/Holy Fire® Reiki III Master/Teacher and a Karuna Reiki® Master/Teacher. It is an honor and joy to teach Reiki and support students with their ongoing practice via a monthly Reiki practice group at my studio and mentoring. I incorporate energy work into my daily life and into my massage practice.

NEW CLIENT INFORMATION
Once you schedule your first appointment, I'll email you the New Client Packet - please be looking for an email with the subject "Welcome! :) and new client packet". This document contains my address, some frequently asked questions, and instructions on how to find my office once you arrive. If you prefer to receive this via postal mail rather than email, I can mail it to you if you'll kindly provide your address (please allow at least a week prior to your appointment to ensure this can arrive in time). Please complete the packet and bring it to your first appointment. If you're not able to print it, you can review it and then arrive an additional 10 minutes early to complete this new client paperwork. You can also download the PDF by clicking on the link below. The link below is the document for a therapeutic massage session and craniosacral session only - I’ll send you a slightly different packet for medical massage, massage after an auto accident, and Reiki. Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you :)
SAFETY & SANITATION
Your health and safety is very important to me. I regularly review the national and local guidance to update my sanitation and safety practices.
I will be wearing an N95 mask during your session. I have long-covid heart rate and muscle symptoms for many months each time I have covid, so I wear a mask so that I do my best not to get it again and have to start the healing process over.
Mask recommendations for COVID-19 have been dropped. Community transmission data is no longer available due to the widespread use of at-home tests and the much lower numbers of people needing to go to doctor offices or hospitals. You may choose to wear a mask for your session if you wish. If you need a mask, I’m happy to provide one for you.
Please remember that symptoms of COVID-19, RSV, and Norovirus can mimic symptoms of other illnesses and allergies. Symptoms can include but are not limited to sneezing, runny nose, coughing, sore throat, headache, fatigue, or digestive upset. If you are having ANY symptoms outside of full health, please err on the side of caution and wait to come to a massage appointment until you can be certain you are fully well. If you are ill, please allow two weeks prior to coming in for an appointment.
Please reschedule your appointment if you find yourself feeling unwell or have been exposed to COVID-19, RSV, Norovirus, or any other illness including the flu. I hope to alleviate any stress or hesitation you have about shifting an upcoming appointment. Please request to reschedule as soon as you're aware you'll need to. We will look for a new appointment time that allows you time to get well.
Massage therapy by nature involves close physical proximity over an extended period of time, and due to that, there could be a risk of virus transmission. As I mentioned previously, I will be wearing an N95 mask protect my clients.
Questions and suggestions are welcome and your comfort and safety are my highest priority.

I offer professional, therapeutic massage. With years of training and experience, I sincerely hope that I'm able to reduce pain and improve your experience of your body in daily life. You will be draped (covered with a sheet and blanket) during the massage, and only the area being worked on will be undraped. Your genital area and gluteal region will always be covered. People with breast tissue will have their chest draped during the session. People without breast tissue have the option to have their chest uncovered if massage on the muscles in that area would be therapeutically helpful and if they are comfortable with that. My goal is for you to feel comfortable and safe at all times, and I encourage and welcome discussion and feedback about my techniques, the massage, and the room environment so that I can ensure your comfort. Discussions of a sexual nature do not belong in the massage room, and doing so and will result in your session ending immediately and without a refund.

It is always up to you what clothing you wear during your massage. Some clients prefer to wear underwear, some clients prefer not to wear any clothing at all. During the winter, some people prefer to wear socks to keep their feet warm! So it really depends. Your comfort is the most important. Your clothing choice will not affect your massage.
-
Many people are sensitive to perfumes, colognes, body sprays, scented deodorants, and strongly scented laundry products. Even though sheets are changed and surfaces are washed between sessions, these scents can remain in the room. Clients coming in after you may have mild to significant reactions including asthma, allergic responses, or migraines. Please avoid applying/using these products before coming in for your session.

Please reschedule your appointment if possible - I’m happy to reschedule it to another day/time. If you find that you must cancel your appointment, please do so as soon as you can, and at least 48 hours before your appointment day/time.
In the case of a cancellation where you are requesting a full refund of your pre-paid session price to your original payment method, a $15 service fee will be deducted from your refund (covering processing fees charged by Square and processing time).
For cancellations with less than 24 hours notice, a dollar portion of your appointment charge is non-refundable (amount varies depending on service, please review your particular service for details). I offer a one-time grace of a last minute request to reschedule for an unexpected situation. Subsequent last-minute reschedule requests will incur the late cancellation fee. Ongoing appointments for clients who have had late cancellations or no-shows will be at the discretion of the business owner.
I understand that unanticipated events occur in everyone’s life. Unforeseen events such as car problems, crashes, and illness are just a few reasons why one might need to arrive late to or cancel a massage appointment. However, I ask that you call as soon as possible if you will be late or find that you cannot keep your appointment.
For arrivals 1-14 minutes late, your session will take place in the time remaining for your scheduled session, and the full session payment will apply. No partial refunds are available for late arrivals and the time of your session will not be extended.
For arrivals later than 15 minutes past the scheduled start time, this will be considered a no-show, your full appointment will be canceled, and the full appointment cost is non-refundable.
For full no-shows or inappropriate/unsafe behavior during the session resulting in the session ending early, your appointment cost is non-refundable. Clients who fail to arrive for scheduled sessions or cancel repeatedly may be ineligible for ongoing services. This decision is at the discretion of the business owner.
If you have purchased an appointment via Groupon, I’m unable to refund the cost of your session as I receive no payment from Groupon until the session is complete. You may request to reschedule your appointment with advance notice. Your Groupon will be redeemed the day/time of your scheduled appointment for the full amount regardless of late arrival or no-show.

If any medications are prescribed by your health care team, you should take them according to the prescription and not interrupt your schedule for a massage. Please be sure to let me know what you’re taking. It’s best to plan your massage mid-way between doses of a pain medication so that you’ll be able to be awake and perceive pressure and pain during the session. Please don’t use alcohol, over the counter pain medications (unless prescribed with a schedule by a doctor), cbd, or thc/marijuana, or any other sensation-affecting products within 6 hours prior to your session to ensure you will be awake and perceive sensations accurately. I’ll need to adjust pressure and technique and avoid deep work to ensure your safety if you are unable in any way to respond to questions about pressure or comfort.

Massage has the potential to completely transform your experience within your body! You can feel better, sleep better, experience less pain, have more fluid and easy movement, and be able to do daily tasks more comfortably. Massage also benefits the brain, hormones, digestion, skin, and emotions. Mayo Clinic has a nice article on the benefits of massage therapy. "Brush aside any thoughts that massage is only a feel-good way to indulge or pamper yourself. To the contrary, massage can be a powerful tool to help you take charge of your health and well-being, whether you have a specific health condition or are just looking for another stress reliever." (Mayo Clinic, Jan 12, 2021)

I absolutely don't subscribe to the 'no pain - no gain' philosophy. As a matter of fact, I believe the opposite. We need to work therapeutically, but within your pain tolerance, so that the nervous system is able to monitor and respond positively to the work being done. There will be some pain, but too much pain sends our nervous system into a 'fight-or-flight' response and cortisol is released into the system. The body is not able to heal and renew during this period. If we can work within the body's pain tolerance, with enough therapeutic pain to get change to happen but not too much to activate the nervous system, and approach tension areas gradually, the body can release little by little and greater healing can be accomplished in the session.

All massages include all services that I offer that would be therapeutic for the issue on which we're working (except for Spa Therapy packages which are specifically designed). The only exception is that Reiki sessions include only Reiki. You may choose to exclude modalities you don't wish to receive, for example, some clients don't wish to have hot stones because they are sensitive to heat. We will talk prior to your appointment, and you'll have time to ask questions, discuss the plan for your session, and let me know about anything you'd like to avoid.

If you're not able to find an appointment time available via my Schedule An Appointment link, please reach out to me via text or email to let me know when you could come in and see if time is available. My goal is to get back to you within 24 hours - please do provide your contact information so I can reach you. I may send a text rather than calling if I’m between clients, so please watch your messages for a reply.
I don’t offer same-day appointments and may not be able to get back to folks requesting same-day sessions due to the day of the request having already passed. I may not be able to answer the phone during the work day due to being in session with other clients. Please don’t arrive to the office without having a scheduled appointment. Appointments are available only via my online calendar or by talking with me. I don’t do walk-in appointments. You’ll receive email and text confirmation of an appointment and reminders - it should be clear that it is confirmed. If you’re in doubt about your appointment date or time, you are welcome to reach out to me to confirm directly.

Absolutely! Please let me know where you're applying the cream or where you're receiving injections so we can avoid those areas if needed. Massage can be a great benefit to anyone, and can be very beneficial for the body. We will take care to avoid areas that may be sensitive due to medical treatments.

Please feel very welcome to reach out to me by phone, email, or text to share your question and get answers. It is so important to feel comfortable, safe, and confident both prior to and during your session. I'm happy to help!
